Well, by all means, it’s in fiction context though…
So..I just finished watching a superhero anime titled One-Punch Man about 3 weeks ago…
And because of the Avengers hype recently, I curiously searched on the internet whether someone made a comparison of both titles which resulted in the find of above fan arts made by a Korean artist named Woo Chul Lee.
The moment I saw the picture, my mind just said.. DAMN RIGHT! No one will be able to win over Saitama!
As a brief introduction, One-punch Man tells us the story about a superhero, Saitama, whose originally an ordinary human but became unbelievably strong by did 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats and 10 km running every day for 1.5 years… (ONLY!) but after gaining this strength he lost all his hair as a consequence of this intense training..
So we have a bald main protagonist in this title!
And actually some people (in real life) tried this exercise… you can look for them on youtube.
The story sets in a fiction Japan where monsters often roaming freely and Hero Association made to counter these monsters.
Saitama already very strong from the start of a story and strangely just act as a “superhero” for hobby only, but as a story progress he joined the Hero Association and becomes a professional hero but strangely (again) almost no one realize and acknowledge his strength somehow, because of his “simplified” appearance.

We will also get to know many strong superheroes and monsters during the series, and the fights between them are always shown in a very cool way and take almost half of each episode, while when Saitama appears he just finish it in a single punch.
But the main character always appear at the very last to gain glorious victory…
And as the title itself, Saitama beats his enemy (no matter how strong they are) with one-punch only!
And as far as the story goes, no enemy has been able to survive his single punch, and he is the strongest character in the series as far (although most of the other characters still aren’t aware of this fact)
I believe the author create this comic and Saitama as “troll”
As in “How if the invincible strongest superhero, who is an ordinary human, is really there from the beginning of the story?”
And in addition to my amazement, as usual in anime plot, this Saitama person has kinda a twisted personality (not in a bad way)
He is practically an indifferent and ignorant person, who most of the time doesn’t care about his surrounding (his most concerns is grocery store time sale!). He is bad at remembering people names and faces, which often provokes his enemy. And he doesn’t take his hero role seriously, as he already becomes too strong, he is kinda looking for an opponent who can give him a challenge.
But during the series, we can see Saitama other surprising good sides too. He doesn’t care about fame and making a name as a superhero, and he doesn’t care when the other person took credit of his achievements in beating all strong monsters. To my surprise, he also very tactful and insightful (when he is in the mode), where he capable of analyzing his surrounding situations and other characters’ trait in a very short time.
There will be no end to describe this Saitama character, so I will wrap up by listing what he is capable until now. To be noted, as he is an ordinary human being, he can’t fly or create energy blast from part of his body.
- He effortlessly defeating powerful enemies with a single punch. This includes a huge meteor which predicted to destroy a whole city.
- He can go back to Earth from Moon in a single jump. And he can hold his breath in a quite long time as he is still capable to take a look on his surrounding when he was on the moon.
- He can create shock waves from his punch!
- He can finish a 1500 meter dash in an instant (during hero qualification test). He is very fast that he leaves afterimages when moving at high speeds.
- He never out of breath that is hinting his immense stamina!
- It appears that he also has a sense that beyond human abilities, he was capable to pick up the various conversation from bystanders while fighting monsters.
- He can withstand all kind of blows from enemies without having a scratch.
- He is immune to any psychic attacks.

All those qualities in Saitama, and his unique personality, made me believe that he is the strongest superhero in the universe.
Well, originally the creator made this series and Saitama to trolling all the superheroes series, so please don’t offended by it, as if you try to see all the series, it will make no sense of how Saitama can be unbelievably strong…
But I still think that Saitama is super cool and the strongest hero out there, and I very enjoying the series!

So this is just a shallow review of my belief of the strongest superhero character, if you are interested to watch, Netflix has the first season.
Also, this anime is not appropriate for children, as there are some bloody scenes (flying heads, breaking body parts and others)
Thank you for your time to read this review!

Stephanie, I must say I love your love for all things digital, and this post is nothing short of that. I enjoyed your review of this series, and I would never have known its existence if you didn’t post about it.
Thank you for your inside look into animation.

Hey Stephanie! It’s so great to get some info about the anime world as I don’t know enough. I’m also kind of fascinated by fan art and the whole culture around the fans and consumers, themselves, creating art as a reaction to what they love. (Ever since Paul’s essay assignment I’ve also had some insights into digital arts, especially those is Asia. It’s kind of blowing my mind, even though I’ve probably only seen the “tip of the iceberg”.)
I also love that the character you describe here is just a modest, ordinary guy. There’s something powerful about the fact that he can accomplish these hugely heroic acts, just as an ordinary person who, like everyone, has lots of faults and mediocre elements to their life and character.
Thank you!
